This one. Right here. He totally stole our hearts.
Spring Portrait time is upon us! And trust us, you don’t want to wait too much longer. Here are a few reasons why:
- It’s not too hot. By the time Memorial Day hits, that summer sun is blazing and you don’t want to look like you’ve just finished an African Safari in your family photos.
- Everything is green and blooming. April Showers bring May flowers, but sometimes they can knock all the blooms off. The earlier in the season you get outside the more likely you are to have that great color that makes your portraits pop!
- Bugs. Although we often fight those dreaded inchworms, the real problems of mosquitoes and flies are not out in full force! The last thing you want to do is be swatting a mosquito when your child finally has that perfect smile.
- Lighting. Evening spring lighting is perfect for family portraits, and even better, your husband is going to be off work before we even need to begin the session. He won’t be able to use getting off of work as an excuse!
There are plenty of beautiful locations around our area that we are more than happy to travel to, including your own backyard (or front). Don’t hesitate to call! Check your schedule and call us today. Evening appointments are limited and will fill up quickly! And don’t forget to ask about our current booking special!
See below for some great clothing ideas!
The baby ducklings are back for two days only!!! This is one of our best selling mini-sessions and it’s almost time!! You will not want to miss this!! Appointments are going fast! Call Today!!!
In just a little over a week, we’ll be kicking off our photo classes for the year and we could not be more excited! If you’re still not sure this is the class for you, here is some information that might help you make up your mind!
- You’re not alone! Each class is full of eager students just like you, ready to learn! Even better, you get a special rate when you book a class with a friend!
- You’re not too old! Or too young! We have students ranging from teenagers all the way to the young at heart! The class is presented in such a way that it is easy to comprehend on all levels!
- I don’t have a camera! That’s okay, it’s not required! Come to the class, learn great information and hear from the expert what to look for when purchasing your next camera!
- Is Three hours enough time? We like to keep the class short so that our students do not get overwhelmed. It is literally a “Crash Course” so there will be a lot of information in a short amount of time. However, we have planned it so that there is plenty of time for breaks, questions and one-on-one time with Phillip..
- The information I want isn’t included in the 7 steps! The 7 steps in our beginner class will encompass the essentials to help you create better photographs and learn your DSLR camera. Before each class, we do a survey to find out if you are wanting to learn anything specific. Unlike most photography classes, the instruction of each class, beyond the basics, is designed around the participants’ wants and needs. If for some reason your question wasn’t answered, there is Q&A time with Phillip at the end of the class, and he’s available for one-on-one tutoring at a different date and time if the need arises.
If you’re still unsure, give us a call! We’d love to talk to you and help you decide if this is the right class for you! And be sure to check back with our blog to see what our past students are saying about their experience!
If you’re ready to dive in, head on over and get registered for our next class!
In the fall of last year, we launched our photo workshops with our Beginner’s Class. Phillip was very excited to share the knowledge that he has accumulated over 20 years back to our clients and friends. We were very pleased that the classes were met with such success. Time after time we have had students return to us exclaiming how thrilled they were to put their knowledge to use and we think this is awesome!
With such a high caliber of digital SLR cameras becoming available to the general public, there is a need for hands-on training, and why not receive that from a professional in the business? The neat thing is that these classes apply to everyone!! So far, we have had students as young as 12 years and 16 years old! The class is modeled specifically to the participants and what they are wanting to learn. For example, we had one mom who wanted to learn how to better photograph her sons’ sports photos at the game. The 16 year old has been photographing race cars and wanted to learn more about how to set his camera for high speed. Phillip spends time in each of the workshops going over the manual settings of the camera, as well as the basics of photography. You’ll not only leave with a better understanding of how to use the camera, but also how to better compose your photographs and adjust for different lighting situations. Best of all, we keep our classes small so that Phillip has time with each individual student to work with them on anything they need.
Because everything is more fun with a friend, we are offering a $99 “Bring A Friend” special for 2016. Anyone who signs up for one of our 2016 classes, and has a friend do the same, they each will receive the class for $99. The regular price is $149 so that is $100 savings between the two of you!! Click here to register! Since class size is small, they will fill up quickly! Don’t miss out!
The Number One Reason to hire a PPA Photographer
Attention to Detail, Experience, Education—these are all outstanding reasons to hire a PPA Certified Photographer. But what do we think is the number one reason?
Attention to detail
Your photographer will pay attention to the detail. Stray hairs are smoothed out and ties are straightened. Babies are posed right down to the position of their hands. Blankets are smoothed out. Background clutter is removed. Even the time of your appointment is carefully planned. Every part of your session is carefully orchestrated to ensure that you get the best images possible.
A professional photographer has done it before; they’ve photographed a variety of events and portraits and have been exposed to many subjects and conditions. There is no shortcut to experience, and you take a tremendous gamble with a first-timer or an inexperienced photographer not knowing what to do at various points during your shoot. Professionals know intuitively to take extra shots of crucial moments in case anyone blinks or has an awkward expression. They know the ins and outs of posing and can make subjects look natural in any setting. They anticipate angles and approaches for each scene. They have experience in guiding groups of every size for optimal results.
Just like in any other field, PPA Professional photographers have endless hours of training and experience. It takes years and a lot of hard work to hone photography skills. Your photographer will have spent a lot of time and money educating themselves on how to compose your images and light them well to create a lovely gallery of images for you to choose from. However, that is only the beginning. A true professional photographer is an artist from start to finish. They start with the image from the camera, but they can take that image and enhance it digitally for optimal color, saturation, and quality. This experience only comes with years of study in darkrooms and digital classes.
One of the goals of most sessions is to produce images that will be enlarged and framed for the wall. This is an investment in your home and can enhance a room. You spend a lot of time and hard earned money furnishing your room. A final touch of professional images of your family only makes sense.
The number one reason to hire a professional photographer is that once that special day is over, the kids are grown up, or you’ve said “I do”– it is now a precious memory. Those moments cannot be relived. Weddings, maternity images, newborn images, senior year, and other important milestones only happen once. These photos will take you back to that time or that day, to a place where you can almost smell the flowers and touch the perfect, soft newborn skin. It is definitely worth hiring the very best to capture those precious memories.

With the popularity of location photography these days, one might ask… Is there still a demand for indoor studio photography? Absolutely!!! While the beauty of nature will always be inspiring, it is important to also understand the need for and benefits of a Professional In-Studio Session. In-studio photography does not have to be stiff and boring. In fact, a studio portrait session provides a blank canvas from which Phillip Crider can create any look, style and feel that each individual client is looking for. Pre-session consultations are so important for this reason.
Just as any commissioned artist, it is important for us to meet with you and discuss your desires and wishes. Most people have either seen something they like or have an idea of a style they are wanting. Even if you have no idea what you’re wanting, we can help you out! During a consultation, our portrait consultants discuss all aspects of a portrait session with you from your desires of photographic style to clothing to the end result of what you want as keepsakes. We can show you samples of the many styles and products that we can create. It is not unusual for a client to bring in a photo from a magazine or other media source that they wish to emulate.
In studio sessions allow the photographic artist to have complete control over lighting, composition, etc. to achieve a specific look, style and feel. Because of this, in studio sessions tend to offer more creativity than outdoor sessions. From very simple to very elaborate, we can produce a timeless treasure for you to keep forever! Whether you’re using our props, your own props you bring in, or a plain background that will be painted digitally later, the possibilities are endless with in studio photography. No two sessions are ever exactly alike. Plus, you won’t have to worry about the weather! Rain or Shine, Hot or Cold, you are always comfortable indoors! Indoor Studio sessions still are classy and ideal for capturing your family’s cherished memories.
What does your Business Headshot say about you?
The other day, I happened to see an ad for a business professional and was surprised to see his business headshot.
It was awful.
It looked like it could have been taken with an iPhone.
The lighting was bad. The quality was poor. There was no “enhancing” done to the image.
Overall, the image was not much better than a “selfie” that you might see on Instagram or Facebook.
I started wondering WHY? Why would someone who is in business (no matter what business) make the decision to have their image be portrayed in such poor light? I mean, we all learned in Marketing 101 that the first impression is the most important impression, right? So the first impression he has made on me is one of lack of quality, attention to detail and genuine lack of care for his professional “image”.
Whether you choose Crider’s to do your professional headshots (which you should!), or you choose some other professional, PLEASE do yourself a favor: Get a Professional Business Portrait taken.
We have a $95 Business Portrait Package that includes:
A 15 Minute Portrait Session

We offer other Business Portrait Packages that include prints and even Business Cards. We can do anything from Traditional to Contemporary and everything in between. We can even go on location to the place of your choice, should that be of interest to you. Whatever your style, whatever your line of work, we can capture you in the perfect light.
